Julius Nepos war der letzte weströmische Kaiser. Er wurde auch nach der Entthronung des Romulus Augustus sowohl von Zeno als auch von Odovacar anerkannt. Als Nepos 480 Vorbereitungen traf, um seine Macht auch faktisch wiederherzustellen, wurde er von seinen eigenen Anhängern in Dalmatien ermordet.
