Die Münzen dieses Typus' sind bekannt für die erste Christusdarstellung in diesem Bildmedium. In der Forschung wird diskutiert, ob sie eine Reproduktion des Christusbildnisses aus der Apsis im Chrysotriklinos, dem Zeremoniensaal des Großen Palastes in Konstantinopel, darstellt.
