Die Zuweisung nach Eleutherion und sogar die Existenz der Stadt ist umstritten. Stilistisch und motivisch könnte die Münze ebenfalls der ionischen Stadt Milet zugeordnet werden. Imhoof-Blumer argumentiert aufgrund des fehlenden Monogramms und typischen Sternes gegen diese Möglichkeit, während v. Fritze eine Zuweisung nach Eleutherion für zweifelhaft hält. Die Reverslegende könnte ihm zufolge ebenso einen Beamten benennen.

The attribution to Eleutherion, and even the existence of the city is disputed. In terms of style and motif, the coin could also be attributed to the Ionian city of Miletus.
