Nach Strabon (XIII 618) bedeutet Hekatonnesoi Inseln des Hekatos, eine andere Deutung ist "100 Inseln". Hekatos ist ein Beiname des Apollon, dessen Kopf auf dem Avers unseres Stückes erscheint.

According to Strabo (XIII 618), Hekatonnesoi means “islands of Hekatos”; another interpretation is “100 islands”. Hekatos is an epithet of Apollo, whose head appears on the obverse of this piece.
