Die Legende auf dem Avers ist lydisch "Walwel" bzw. "Walwet". Dies ist unterschiedlich aufgelöst worden, wir folgen Stefan Karwiese, der Walwet(tes) mit Alyattes identifiziert. Siehe hierzu S. Auch die Datierung ist umstritten; die Regierungszeit des Alyattes und somit auch die Münze ist möglicherweise früher zu datieren.
