Nur in der relativ kurzen Spanne zwischen 466 und 422 v. Chr. war Leontinoi selbständig. Der Revers des Stückes zeigt als sprechendes Wappen einen Löwenkopf, umgeben von Gerstenkörnern, die auf den Getreidereichtum der Campi Leontini hinweisen.
