Mithradates VI., 120-63 v. Chr. AV-Stater, pergamenisches Jahr 2 (= 88/87 v. Chr.), Pergamon; 8,51 g. Kopf r. mit Diadem//Hirsch weidet l. in Efeukranz. de Callatay D 7/R 4 c (dies Exemplar).
RR Geprägt mit etwas rostigem Aversstempel, vorzüglich
Exemplar der Auktion Hess-Leu 36, Zürich 1968, Nr. 245 und der Auktion The New York Sale VII, New York 2004, Nr. 182.
Das Stück wurde bald nach der sogenannten Vesper von Ephesos geprägt. Mithradates VI. hatte die Ermordung aller Römer und Italiker in Kleinasien an einem bestimmten Tag organisiert. Diesem größten Völkermord der Antike fielen zwischen 80.000 und 150.000 Menschen zum Opfer - Männer, Frauen, Kinder, Greise.
