IMP CAES VESP – AVG CENS laureate bust of Vespasian to r.//PAX – AVG Pax Augusta (the personification of the Imperial Peace) standing l., leaning with her l. elbow on a column, holding a laurel twig in her l. hand, with her outstretched r. hand stretching a caduceus over a low tripod on which an object very similar to a big moneybag is placed. This coin’s message is obvious: The imperial peace (Pax), achieved by the victory (laurel branch) of the Flavian emperors over the rebellious Jews earned the Romans a revival of trade (caduceus) in the Levant and of universal prosperity (purse).
