St. Martin wurde in Ungarn um 315 geboren und diente als römischer Offizier. Er bekannte sich früh zum Christentum und wurde 375 zum Bischof von Tours erhoben. Um seine Zelle herum entstand das Kloster Marmoutiers. Er ist einer der frühen Heiligen, sein Gedenktag ist der 11. November.
