St. Jacob (Jacobus) gehörte zum Kreis der zwölf Apostel und war später Schutzheiliger der Pilger. Der Legende nach soll er in Spanien gewirkt haben. Über seinem angeblichen Grab wurde eine Kirche erbaut, um die herum die Stadt Santiago de Compostela entstand, die bereits seit dem Mittelalter einer der bekanntesten Wallfahrtsorte der Christenheit ist.
