Das vorliegende Stück gehört zu der Reihe der sogenannten emblematischen Taler, die auf die Streitigkeiten des Herzogs mit einigen landständischen Adeligen Bezug nehmen. Der Herzog ist auf diesem Taler als Pelikan dargestellt, der sich für seine Jungen, d. h. seine Untertanen, opfert.
