Grunthal diesen und ähnliche Typen (M./G. 1496-1517) lediglich unter „Late Ninth-Century Issues of an Emperor Charles“ einordnen, spricht sich G. Depeyrot für eine Prägung unter Karl dem Kahlen (840-877) oder Karl dem Dicken (884-887) aus.
