Der Pferdekopf gehört zur Gründungssage von Karthago, so schreibt Vergil:"...Dort zuerst von Wellen und Wind ans Ufer geworfen, gruben ein Zeichen die Punier aus. Die Herrscherin Juno zeigte es an, eines Streitrosses Haupt, so werde denn Kriegsruhm zieren das Volk jahrhundertelang und Fülle des Lebens."
The horse’s head is part of the founding legend of Carthage, as Virgil writes: “...Thrown onto the shore by the waves and wind, the Punic people dug up the head of a warhorse. The ruler Juno presented it to the people as a sign that they would be blessed with glory in battle and fullness of life for centuries to come.”
